Why no password?
Passwords get reused, and a reused password on any one service is a foothold into somebody's real accounts. A link in your inbox is one fewer secret for you to manage and one fewer thing for us to lose.
Signing in isn't needed for the free tools: those work with no account at all. This is for monitoring customers.
The confirm button in your email
The link opens a page with one button on it rather than signing you straight in. That's because company mail filters (Proofpoint, Microsoft Defender, Mimecast) open every link in an email to scan it. Without that extra click, your sign-in link would frequently be used up by a scanner before you ever got to it, and you'd see "already used" on your first try.
